No rest for Huntsville’s hockey squads as the new year begins

There was no time to waste for Huntsville’s hockey teams. With the New Year in full swing, local teams faced off against their opponents on home ice in the first week of January.

The year began with the Invisible Fence Pee Wee Rep Otters playing against the Highland Storm on Monday January 2 in the Jack Bionda arena. The end result had the Storm taking the win 8-3 over the Otters. But on Tuesday, January 3 the Pee Wee Rep Otters made a full comeback and crushed the Midland Centennials on the Jack ice, winning 4-0!

They had another win on the Jack ice on Friday, January 6 against the Muskoka Rock winning 4-0. It must have been the crowd cheering and encouraging the team as they worked hard to control the puck. Way to go Otters! For their third game of the week, on Saturday, January 7, the Otters tried to keep control of the puck on the Don Lough arena but the South Muskoka Bears out-maneuvered them and won by two with a final score of 3-1. It was a close game on Sunday, January 8 against the Lindsay Muskies but the Otters won 2-1. Good luck at the play downs at Muskoka Rock on January 20-22, 2017, Otters.

On Tuesday, January 3 the Don Lough arena saw the MBRP Major Midget Otters versus the Midland Centennials. The game was tight but the Otters managed to pull ahead 2-1 and hold the Centennials off for the entire third period even when they pulled their goalie. It was a fight to keep the lead and the win for their first game back after the holidays. January 7th was a different outcome for the MBRP Otters who faced off against the Muskoka Bears at the Don. The Otters could not keep a full line on the ice and out of the penalty box which allowed the Bears to use the power plays to their advantage, resulting in a 4-1 loss. The next day, the Otters played hard to end with a tied game 2-2 against the Parry Sound Shamrocks in the Don Lough arena. Good luck at the play downs this weekend at the Highland Storm.
