At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Friday, June 10, Trillium Lakeland District School Board (TLDSB) sent out a media release advising that the high school had been put under a hold and secure procedure and members of the Huntsville OPP Detachment were investigating the situation.
There was a heavy police presence at the school and buses were delayed as they picked up students from other schools and waited for the high school to open.
In a hold and secure procedure, exterior doors are locked while classroom routines and lessons continue. Students are not permitted outside and cannot be signed out while a hold and secure is in place. Parents/guardians are not able to pick up students during a hold and secure procedure, either.
According to a police tweet, about an hour after the high school announced it was under a hold and secure procedure, police said the measure was taken due to the proximity of an active police investigation and further indicated there was not believed to be a risk to public safety. They said to expect increased police presence and avoid the area.
At 3:51 p.m. police tweeted that officers were concerned for the safety and well-being of a person in emotional distress. “The hold and secure was a safety precaution. The person was located safely. The hold and secure has been lifted. Thank you everyone for patience and understanding”.

BIG BIG THANK YOU! TO EVERYONE AND LAW ENFORCEMENT.
My son was currently in his last class when this happened. Thanks to all law enforcement that were there to ensure the safety of the students and teachers!! As a parent knowing that my child was safe during this scary ordeal, and at thesame time knowing that a secure lockdown of the whole school was in place and done immediately made me ensure that we have a great protocol system in place when something like this happened. Big thanks again to the high school, bus drivers, and police enforcement and everyone else who was involved to ensure our students and teachers were secure and protected!! Thanks for all you do for this community.
