Huntsville Hawks represent well at provincials

The Huntsville Hawks field lacrosse teams put the finishing touches on their spring season last weekend in Brampton for the provincial championships.

While there were mixed results on the scoreboard, the Hawks organization is proud of the efforts they saw throughout the year and at the provincials.

In Brampton, the Huntsville teams battled through heat, high-pressure matchups, and a lot of emotion. The weekend was filled with grit and growth, with some players stepping up in new roles as well as a pair of semi-final appearances for the Hawks.

“We want to extend our sincere appreciation to the coaches, managers, families, and most importantly, the athletes who gave everything this season, says a message from the Hawks board of directors. “Your time, commitment, and passion for the game were on full display in Brampton and all season long. Thank you for making 2025 Spring Field Lacrosse one to remember.”

The Pickett Landscaping U11 Hawks squad came out firing with a strong round-robin effort before falling in the semi-final to a tough Halton Hills team. The offensive load was carried by Kael Liadis, Nolan Stevenson, and Max Guy, while Emberson Billingsley held strong between the pipes, finishing with a 9.9 GAA.

They lost 15-14 to Hamilton, then picked up a pair of wins – 16-9 over Oshawa and 13-11 against Toronto Beaches 2 – before the semi-final loss to Halton Hills (17-3).

“(We) fought hard all weekend but ran into a strong goalie in the semifinal,” says head coach Aaron Stevenson. “We moved the ball well. I am proud of the leadership shown by our experienced players and the growth from our new players. The season was a success and gave confidence to the players as they look forward to their box seasons.”

The Nick Radtke U13 Hawks showed heart despite a tough draw. The team never gave up and found the back of the net in each contest, with Gabriel Dinner, Drew Radtke, and Oliver Brunetti leading the charge. Special mention to Wyatt Williamson, who stepped up admirably as the U15 goalie after an injury sidelined their starter.

Unfortunately, despite their efforts, they suffered three losses to London, Mimico and Clarington.

The U15 team opened strong with a convincing win over Halton Hills, 12-5, in B Division action. Despite a short bench and the loss of their starting goalie, the group showed resilience throughout the weekend. James Bulloch, Jared Allen, and Oren French consistently delivered offensively, while Wyatt Williamson stood tall stepping up from the U13 team. After the win, the Hawks fell 18-10 to Newmarket and were narrowly edged 10-9 by Oshawa.

Competing in the top tier, the Bickley Ford U17 Hawks team proved they belong among Ontario’s elite. They rebounded from a slow start to knock off Pelham and earn a semi-final berth. Carter Quinlan, Carson Frasier, Avery Shirtliff, and Malik Jakubo were key contributors across the board. A Top 4 finish in the province is a massive accomplishment.

They lost to provincial champion Halton Hills in the round-robin and semi-finals, beat Pelham 9-3 and lost to Oakville 7-5 in the other games.

Head coach Jon Quinlan says, “Great weekend, finished in the top 4 in U17, boys competed hard.”
