Huntsville Festival of the Arts unveils spring classes and summer camp

The Huntsville Festival of the Arts (HfA) is presenting its upcoming Spring/Summer 2024 Youth Programs, offering a diverse array of activities tailored to the artistic growth and enrichment of local youth. From PA days and summer camps to ongoing classes, HfA’s programs provide an opportunity for children to embrace the vibrant energy of spring and summer through creative exploration. Registration opens for HfA members on March 7th and to the public on March 14th at 10 am, HERE.

Summer Camp Highlights:

Nature Arts Camp (7-12 yrs): Immerse your child in the wonders of nature with HfA’s Nature Arts Camp. Led by experienced teacher Alberta Robinet, this outdoor adventure encourages participants to explore their creativity using natural, recycled, and foraged materials. The week culminates with an outdoor exhibition of the campers’ artistic creations.

HFA Music & Dance Camp (7-12 yrs): Indulge your child’s passion for music and dance with HfA’s Music & Dance Camp. Led by local musician and dance leader Hannah Shira Naiman, this unique camp experience offers a blend of traditional music and dance activities. From learning to play the ukulele to creating your own folk songs and mastering traditional dances, participants will embark on a musical journey that culminates in a showcase performance for parents and friends.

Great Adventures Drama Camp (7-12yrs): Explore the wilds of the jungle, climb down into mysterious caves, look for lost treasure and journey to mysterious new places. What will you find as we become archaeologists? Who will we be a hero? Who will be a villain? Activities include theatre games, songs and prop building leading up to an original performance at the end of the week.

Special Events:

Podcast & Print Playground – APRIL 8 PA Day Camp (7-12 years): Dive into multimedia exploration with Podcast & Print Playground – PA Day Camp. Led by radiomaker and media artist David Merleau and multi-media artist Elise Muller, this camp offers young enthusiasts the chance to delve into podcast production and printmaking techniques to craft unique narratives.

Spring Class Highlights:

HfA is pleased to continue its most popular classes: In Theatre Kids (4-6yrs), confidence and creative expression are developed through drama games, character building, costume play, and collaboration with peers. Baby Song & Bounce (0-17mo) offers caregivers the opportunity to bond with their little ones through music, and socialize with others in a friendly and relaxed environment.  Disco Ducks (18mo-4yrs) is a music and movement class for caregivers and tots, set to the theme of disco music. In each class you will experience: simple disco dancing, instrument play and exploration, rhythm games, guitar sing-a-long and more! Drama Tweens (7-12yrs), is  a dynamic drama class for kids 7-12yrs that covers improv, character development, mask work, and comedy. Catherine Luce returns on Wednesdays this spring to lead Sculpture Safari- After School Art (7-12yrs). In this session, kids will create a unique and fun papier-mâché animal wall sculpture.

These programs are made possible through the support of the Hutcheson Family in memory of Jane Hutcheson: Champion of the arts.
