Huntsville Festival of the Arts seeks donations of canoes for the 2026 Canoe Mural Project

Do you have a canoe you’re not using? The Huntsville Festival of the Arts (HfA) is calling on the community to donate gently used canoes for its sixth annual Canoe Mural Project, taking place on July 1, 2026.

The 2026 Canoe Mural Project: Street Art Edition brings together 7 artists to transform real canoes into bold, street-art-inspired works influenced by the iconic landscape paintings of Tom Thomson. During Canada Day festivities in downtown Huntsville, these canoes will be painted live—giving the public a front-row seat to the creative process as the artworks come to life.

The finished works will be exhibited at River Mill Park in downtown Huntsville throughout the summer of 2026, inviting residents and visitors to explore the area while celebrating creativity, local identity, and Canada’s enduring canoe heritage.

Donated canoes do not need to be seaworthy and are preferably made of fibreglass or aluminum—though all types will be considered. Donors will receive a charitable tax receipt and the satisfaction of supporting an initiative that strengthens arts, culture, and reconciliation in our region.
