Huntsville Council passes noise-bylaw exemption for works on King William Street

Residents in the King William Street area between Scott Street and Hwy. 60 can expect things to get noisy through the night and weekends.

At its Jan. 26 meeting, Huntsville Council granted a noise-bylaw exemption to a major infrastructure reconstruction project planned by the District to begin in the spring of 2026 and be completed by the end of the year.

According to the report presented at council, the District will be undertaking a full reconstruction project within the predominantly commercial area of Huntsville. Work will include the removal and replacement of traffic signal infrastructure, sanitary and storm sewers, watermains, curbs, sidewalks, boulevards, and parts of the roadway itself.

The work will require detours, lane restrictions, and is expected to heavily impact traffic. The noise bylaw exemption was granted to enable the work to be conducted at night and weekends because it would help minimize traffic congestion, improve safety, and expedite the completion of the project.

Noise mitigation measures and advanced public notice are expected to be coordinated between the contractor, the District of Muskoka, and the Town of Huntsville.

Access for pedestrians and access to driveways and businesses are expected to be maintained. Michael Parniak, Huntsville Civil Engineering Technologist, indicated there will be a person on call to handle noise and disruption complaints.
