HHS Boys Basketball team dominant in MPS Championships

The Huntsville High School junior boys basketball team had an exceptional showing on Thursday, overcoming strong efforts from Gravenhurst and Parry Sound to win the Muskoka Parry Sound Championships and advance to the the Georgian Bay regional finals (GBSSA) next week. In doing so, the boys also wrapped up another undefeated year for HHS, finishing with a perfect regular season record.

“The junior boys were great today,” said head coach Terry Barber. “We played extremely well defensively against Gravenhurst. The offence moved the ball well, and our rebounding was fantastic. We were really firing on all cylinders.”

The Hoyas went on to defeat the Gryphons in their first game by a final score of 43 – 13, with Bronson Boyko leading the team with 20 points while Ross Johnson contributed nine.

The tournament final against Parry Sound was much closer, but the Hoyas once again came out on top after getting on the scoreboard early and often. The second half of the game featured intense action and back and forth play as Parry Sound tried to rally, but Huntsville refused to relinquish their lead finishing with a 57 – 48 victory. Bronson Boyko once again led the team with 18 points, while Mitchell Paquin & Steven Grigorov both had eight.

Congratulations to the Hoyas players and coaches, who will play in the GBSSA finals next Wednesday.
