The Huntsville Hawks field lacrosse teams are headed to their respective provincial championships this weekend after finishing their regular season on May 10 and 11.
The Pickett Landscaping U11 Hawks split last weekend’s games. They won the first game 17-15 over Oshawa and lost 15-5 in the second against Mimico. Massey Moyer (3), Nolan Stevenson (3), Jacob Rudge (3), Kael Liadis (4), Ben Stephens (2), Boden Shirtliff, and Declan Cole scored in the win. Stevenson (2), Liadis, Dinner and Moyer found the net in the loss.
“Great passing and ball movement was the key to success in our first game against Oshawa,” says coach Aaron Stevenson. “The Mimico game was very physical and offer lots of opportunity to learn and grow. First time goalie Jasper Collins was solid in goal making numerous acrobatic saves that kept us in the game.”
The U11 season record is 4-5-1 with 104 goals for and 102 goals against. They are ranked 20th in the province. Their top scorers are Liadis with 31 points (23 goals, 8 assists) and Rudge at 29 pts (20 G, 9 A). Several players shared goalie duties.
The Nick Radtke U13 Hawks won one and tied one last weekend. They tied Clarington 10-10 before beating Pelham 15-10 in a pair of high-scoring affairs. In the tie, Gabriel Dinner (4), Logan McMackin (3), Oliver Brunetti (2), and Kaesen Adair scored for Huntsville. In the win, Dinner (6), Adair (2), Alexander Stevenson (2), Presley Schmeler (2), Bodi Baril, and Calvin Shirtliff (2) tallied.
The U13 Hawks finished the regular season at 6-3-1 with 97 goals for and only 26 against. They are ranked 15th in the province. Their top scorers were Dinner with 35 points (30 G, 5 A), Schmeler with 27 points (18 G, 9 A), Adair with 24 points (14 G, 10 A), and Brunetti with 22 points (9 G, 13 A). The U13 goalies were Wyatt Williams and Gavin MacDonald.
The U15 Hawks won both their games last weekend, 14-9 over Milton and 9-8 over Orangeville. Oren French (5), Jared Allen (3), James Bulloch (2), Sage Liadis (2), Sawyer Bullen, and Paxten Cool had the goals against Milton. Bulloch (3), Liadis (3), Allen (2), and French scored against Orangeville.
The U15’s finished with a 4-6 record and ranked 13th in the province. They scored 88 and gave up 100. Top scorers on the team were French with 61 points (32 G, 29 A), Liadis with 22 points (11 G, 11 A), and Allen with 20 points (19 G, 1 A). Goalie Logen Sen finished the regular season with a 7.50 GAA (goals against average).
The Bickley Ford U17 Hawks had a pair of tough losses last weekend as they were missing several players due to injury and illness. They fell 5-3 to Oakville and 10-3 to Halton. Avery Shirtliff (2) and Noah Holinshead scored against Oakville. Holinshead, Carter Quinlan, and Braeden Higgs had the goals versus Halton. Coach Jon Quinlan says the players who were able to compete did their very best with many playing out of position.
The U17 Hawks head into the provincials with a 7-3 record, ranked 5th in Ontario. They scored 110 goals while giving up 45. Their top scorers are Shirtliff with 41 pts (24G, 17A), Carson Fraiser with 39 points (28 G, 11 A), Higgs at 22 pts (8 G, 14 A), and Malik Jakubo with 20 pts (14 G, 6 A). Goalie Braeden Woolings was solid, posting a 4.22 GAA.
Brampton is hosting the provincial championships this weekend. The U11 and U13 teams play on Saturday; the U15 and U17 provincials go Sunday.
