Habitat CEO issues statement on Huntsville homes destroyed in fire

On Oct. 1, at approximately 10 a.m., two Habitat for Humanity homes in Huntsville’s West Street South were destroyed in a major fire.

According to the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department, 40 firefighters worked for more than eight hours to extinguish the fire. Due to the extensive fire damage and safety risks, the fire department said an excavator was required to bring down structural components to ensure the fire could be safely extinguished. There were no injuries, but both homes were deemed uninhabitable.

They said Victim Services Muskoka has been assisting displaced residents with immediate support and temporary accommodations. A fundraiser was organized for one of the families impacted.

“We can confirm that the families are insured and that recovery processes are underway, which will help them begin rebuilding their lives,” stated Habitat for Humanity Ontario Gateway North CEO Kimberley Woodcock in a post on social media this afternoon. See below.
