Griffin and Sofia raise another $2,135 for SickKids

They’ve done it again. Griffin, 8, and Sofia, 5, set up a lemonade stand outside their parents’ Huntsville Home Hardware store on June 16 in hope of raising thousands of dollars for SickKids to add to the $6,000 they’ve raised over the past four years.

They sold lemonade and cookies made by friends and family for a donation—their sweet smiles given freely were a bonus— while a charity barbecue behind the store served up grilled goodness for the cause.

When all of the funds raised were tallied up, they had brought in $2,135 for SickKids, bringing their five-year total to more than $8,000.

“I enjoy raising money for SickKids hospital,” said Griffin. “That’s why I do it every year.” Sofia helps her big brother by handing out the lemonade and cookies.

Griffin was recently recognized for his fundraising efforts at the Muskoka Community Foundation’s Smart and Caring Muskoka Celebration. He started the lemonade stand when he was just four years old—his mom and dad, Christine Barkey and Mike Graham, bought the Huntsville Home Hardware store five years ago and the company is an avid supporter of the hospital. Griffin said that he wanted to help, too, and has continued the tradition every year since.
