Seven qualifying Huntsville High School students competed at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association (OFSAA) swimming on March 5 & 6 at the Toronto PAN AM Centre in Scarborough. This event hosted 3000 of the top swimmers in Ontario and was a great experience for athletes.
The girls swam on March 5th with Jenna Dove in 100 freestyle, Joan Foxcroft in 50 breast and Maria Orta in 50 Fly all posting best times, in a nerve-racking environment.
The boys swam on March 6th with great results. The boys Medley relay team of Tyler Gaveart, Arik Martin-Padfield, Christin Johnson and Daniel Parry made it to the B-Finals finishing 6th in the B finals or 16th overall. Daniel Parry made it to the A finals in both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle finishing in 9th and 4th respectively. The star of the day was Tyler Gevaert who made it to the A finals for 50 fly finishing 9th and taking the Bronze medal for his amazing race in 50 backstroke.
“This event was a huge swim meet with a very competitive group of some of the best swimmers in Ontario,” said Coach Ally Myers. Coaches Sarah Phillips and Ally Myers were very proud of the Hoyas Swimmers for representing Huntsville with a positive attitude, great sportsmanship and excellent results.
