Huntsville’s Got Talent

Get ready to show off your mad skills, Huntsville

Think you’ve got talent? You’ll soon have a chance to pit your skills against other talented locals when Huntsville’s Got Talent comes to the Algonquin Theatre stage in February.

The event is in support of Community Living Huntsville and is the brainchild of local dentist Dr. Drew Markham, who ran Huntsville Makeover for five years.

“It reached a point where I didn’t know where else I could take (Huntsville Makeover), so I put it on hiatus but I always liked the idea of having an event and I am a sucker for reality TV,” says Dr. Drew. He likes the positive vibe that comes out of singing and talent shows; the opportunity to give exposure to talented locals is a bonus.

The contest is open to Muskoka residents of all ages, although minors require parental consent. And almost all types of talent are welcome, provided they are family-friendly (G or PG rated) and suitable for an indoor venue. Anyone who earns money for their talent is ineligible.

To enter, first you need to submit an audition video showing your act, which will be judged by a panel: Dr. Drew, music producer Andre Wahl, dance instructor Sue Campbell, and Mayor Scott Aitchison. They will choose eight finalists with the remaining two finalists to be selected in an online voting process. All 10 finalists will compete in a live event on February 11, 2017, with the top three as judged that night going on to a final round to vie for cash prizes.

What the judges aren’t looking for are joke auditions – the cringe-worthy kind that make the highlight reels on reality TV. “We know there is a lot of serious talent in Huntsville,” says Dr. Drew. “That’s who we want to see.”

And if you’re a bit shy about showing off your talent? Enter anyhow, says Dr. Drew. “You never know…”
