George Anderson announces he’ll be seeking re-election in Lake of Bays

Lake of Bays Councillor George Anderson is seeking re-election, citing a deep connection to the community, a commitment to environmental protection, and a desire to provide continuity on council.

Representing Ridout Ward for nearly two terms, the councillor said family roots in the area stretch back more than 90 years, fostering a lifelong appreciation for the township and its residents.

“I grew up loving the area and the people,” the councillor said, noting that the community has remained an important part of family life through multiple generations.

Before entering municipal politics, the councillor spent 32 years working in outdoor education with the former Muskoka Board of Education and later the Trillium Lakelands District School Board, retiring in 2013.

He said that his background has helped him shape a strong focus on environmental sustainability and stewardship, which remains a central priority.

“The care of the natural world has always been a guiding principle in my life,” said Anderson. “Maintaining a healthy environment will ensure a sound economy and resilient future for the people of Lake of Bays.”

Among the key issues identified for the next term are environmental protection and lake health, including continued support for the township’s septic inspection program. The councillor also pointed to the importance of managing growth through a revised Official Plan, supporting attainable housing solutions, and advancing green energy initiatives.

Other priorities include strengthening collaboration with the Dorset community and neighbouring Algonquin Highlands, developing the long-term vision for the Dorset Community Health Hub, and ensuring public consultation regarding the future use of the Logging Chain lands.

The councillor said the experience gained over the past two terms would be valuable as new members join council following the municipal election.

“I would appreciate another opportunity to represent the people of Ridout and the Township of Lake of Bays,” the councillor said. “I can share my experience with a new council and provide some continuity.”

The candidate added that positive communication, research, collaboration and compromise have guided decision-making throughout their time in public office, emphasizing a commitment to listening to residents and working cooperatively to address community concerns.
