Maple Leaf Marinas (MLM) managed to raise $40,000 for area hospitals as part of its 6th annual Fuel Your Hospital Fundraiser.
The fundraiser took place over the Civic Holiday weekend from Friday, August 1, through Monday, August 4. Thanks to the incredible generosity of boaters, community partners, and staff, the event raised double the original $20,000 goal, bringing the total raised since the fundraiser began in 2020 to over $156,000.
During the event, boaters fueled up at any of MLM’s 21 locations, with up to 20¢ per litre of fuel pumped donated directly to six hospital foundations across Central Ontario: Georgian Bay General Hospital Foundation, Huntsville Hospital Foundation, West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation, South Muskoka Hospital Foundation, RVH Foundation and Brightshores Health System Owen Sound Foundation.
Huntsville Hospital Foundation received $3,000, and South Muskoka Hospital Foundation received $4,000.
Customers at Huntsville Marine, Baysville Marine, and Kawagama Lake Marina (formerly Old Mill Marina) managed to raise $3,000 for the Huntsville Hospital Foundation and $4,000 was raised for the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation at Walkers Point Marina and Gordon Bay on Lake Muskoka.
Each donation amount is based on the number of marinas, the number of litres pumped and the donation amount from the fuel provider – MLM donates 10 cents per litre regardless. In addition to the fuel pumped, some marinas ran separate fundraising initiatives that weekend, such as BBQs and raffles.
“This year’s results exceeded all expectations,” said Derek Lubert, President, Maple Leaf Marinas. “The generosity of our boating community, our partners, and our dedicated team is truly inspiring, and these funds will have a meaningful impact on healthcare in our regions.”
