The reaction swift. The demeanour unforgiving. The resolve steely.
His hand forced by a second straight loss, this time 7-1 to Dr. Doug on Thursday, May 31, Reds manager/captain Chris Occhiuzzi hit the player movement button.
Occhiuzzi sent two of his veteran players, the legendary Constantin and Dan Gardiner, to other squads in exchange for Jason Sprathoff and Fraser McTurk on Friday morning before recruiting and signing Matthew O’Halloran on Sunday. To make room for O’Halloran, the Reds will need to send one player on their roster on a free transfer to another team.
“What’s done is done and now we move forward,” says Occhiuzzi, whose team has allowed 12 goals while scoring only two over the course of two matches. “Now is not the time for sentiment, now is the time for action. I have incredible confidence in our team, we will turn this season around.”
The magical Romanian will get his first shot at revenge on Thursday, June 7 when the Reds take on Barriston Law.
“I know he’ll be a huge presence for us,” says Barriston Law captain David Caplan. “He still has a wonderful touch and a great feel for the game. I’m not guaranteeing anything, but I have a good feeling about our chances this week.”
