Fire crews kept busy this past weekend

The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department was kept busy this past weekend with multiple calls for service.

On Saturday evening (February 27), crews from Lake of Bays Stations 20 & 30 assisted EMS with a snowmobiler that was injured after hitting a pressure crack on the ice near Grassmere Resort Road. Early Sunday morning, crews once again assisted EMS with a snowmobile collision that happened near Limberlost Road and West Oxbow Lake Road in Lake of Bays. Three people were taken to hospital with injuries.

On Sunday morning (February 28) shortly after 10am, crews from Huntsville Station 1 responded to a reported structure fire on Maws Hill Road. Upon arrival crews found the structure was fully involved after trying to access the property down a snow-packed trail using a UTV. The building was a total loss and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation. The building was not occupied at the time.
