The Huntsville / Lake of Bays Fire Department responded to a fire on Orr Rd. in Huntsville shortly after 11pm last night. The fire started on the exterior of the building and spread into the attic space. The family of five were waiting outside when crews arrived.
The fire was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials. Damage is estimated at $15,000 and no injuries were reported.
Residents are reminded to avoid using plastic containers to extinguish smoking materials. If a suitable ashtray is not available, a sturdy metal container filled with sand is a safer option and always ensure smoking materials are fully extinguished.
