The Huntsville Hawks field lacrosse teams are heading into their final weekend of regular season action ahead of the upcoming provincial championships.
Last weekend there were plenty of strong efforts across the board, with mixed results, as the teams continue their journey this season.
The Bickley Ford U17 Hawks are sitting at a season record of 7-1 after splitting two games last weekend. They fell 12-9 against Orangeville before bouncing back with a 14-10 win over Whitby.
Avery Shirtliff (2), Taylor Carnduff, Carson Frasier (3), Noah Holinshead, Braeden Higgs, and Hudson Francis scored against Orangeville. In the win, Frasier led the way with six goals, while Carnduff (2), Higgs, Liam Andrews, Malik Jakubo (2), and Carter Quinlan added the other tallies.
The U17 Hawks are in Burlington on May 11 to take on the Halton Hills Bulldogs at 1:30 p.m. and Oakville Hawks at 4:30 p.m.
The U15 Hawks are 2-6 this year, despite some excellent games played. They took a tough 11-8 loss to Clarington before falling 15-5 against Peterborough last weekend. Oren French (4), Sawyer bullen, Easton Cameron, Tucker Tomlinson, and Sage Liadis scored versus Clarington. French had a hat trick, while Bullen and Liadis added the others against Peterborough.
“With a competitive schedule to start the 2025 Field Lacrosse season, the U15 Huntsville Hawks are currently ranked 13th of 31 teams in the province and have seated themselves firmly in the B division,” notes coach Andrew Pegg.
The U15 Hawks are in Guelph on May 11 for games against the Milton Mavericks at noon, and Orangeville Northmen at 3 p.m.
The Nick Radtke U13 Hawks are 5-3 on the year after a pair of tight losses last weekend. The team dropped a 10-7 game to Centre Wellington followed by a 11-6 loss to Newmarket. Wyatt Williams (2), Bodi Baril, Logan McMackin (2), Oliver Brunetti, and Gabriel Dinner scored against Wellington with Kaesen Adair (2), Dinner (2), and McMackin (2) finding the net versus Newmarket.
The U13 Hawks take on the Clarington Gaels at 11:30 a.m., and the Pelham Raiders at 2 p.m., on May 10 in Guelph.
The Pickett Landscaping U11 Hawks are 3-4-1 so far this season after falling short in both games last weekend. They battled hard but came up short in a 9-6 loss to Centre Wellington and filled the net in a high scoring 14-9 loss to Kitchener.
Jacob Rudge, Nolan Stevenson (2), Max Guy, Kael Liadis, and Ryan Gisborne scored versus Wellington, while against Kitchener, Liadis led the way with five goals. Stevenson, Guy, and Boden Shirtliff added the other tallies.
“The team had a successful start to the season winning the first three games and have battled hard in close losses and ties for a record of 3-4-1,” says U11 coach Tomas Cowden. “The team has scored 82 goals through 8 games which have been spread around returning players and first-time field players as well. The team has shared the responsibility in goal with seven different players protecting the 6×6 net helping the team to a plus-10 goal differential for the season. They are rounding into shape for a strong year end provincial tournament.”
The U11 Hawks finish their regular season against the Oshawa Blue Knights at 10:15 a.m. and the Mimico Mountaineers at 12:45 p.m. on May 10 in Ajax.
