With today’s school bus cancellations, the long weekend gets off to an early start for area kids. Here are some ways to keep them entertained this weekend:
Dwight Winter Carnival Feb 12-13 (Note: Sunday’s Radar Run has been cancelled)
You won’t find much more winter fun in one place. The 46th annual Dwight Winter Carnival includes a circus show, Body Zorbs (think human bowling), a bungee run, hot air balloon rides, a drumming circle and fat bike demos with Algonquin Outfitters.
Fire and Ice on the Arrowhead Skating Trail
You can’t beat skating along a lit trail at night for both beauty and fun. Fire and Ice is planned for Feb 13 & 14 from 6-9pm both days. The trail is also open from 11-3 both days, as well as February 15 from 11-5:30. And don’t forget about Arrowhead’s other great activities: tubing, snowshoeing, and Nordic skiing. Baysville Winterfest, February 15, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm
Fun for the whole family! Enjoy a free pancake breakfast and hot dog lunch courtesy of the Baysville Lions, indoor kids crafts, outdoors games & activities, free public skating, birds of prey demonstration, magic show, fire fighters’ ice rescue demonstration, Fern Glen Fiddleheads and line dancing, Chili Challenge and more! All activities are taking place in the Lake of Bays Community Centre and Autumn Leaves Seniors Centre on University Street in Baysville.
Kearney Dog Sled Races, Febraury 13-14
Watch these exciting races: 4 dog sprint race, 6 dog sprint race, 10 dog stage race, 1 & 2 dog ski-joring race, and Mutt & Kid races. Plus a Friday night family skate, igloo building and snowshoe games with Algonquin Outfitters, kids’ activities, and dog sled rides. If you’ve never been, this might be the year to check out the fun!
