Environment Canada issues winter weather travel advisory

Heavy snow is expected late Monday, impacting areas including parts of Muskoka and East Parry Sound.

Hazards:
Locally heavy snowfall with total accumulations of 5 to 15 cm.
Peak snowfall rates of 3 to 5 cm per hour.
Reduced visibility at times in heavy snow.
Strong northwesterly winds gusting up to 60 km/h Monday night.

Timing:
Monday afternoon through Monday evening for the heavy snow.
Monday night into Tuesday morning for the strong winds and local blowing snow.

Discussion:
An area of heavy snow will move through the region Monday. Precipitation may initially begin as rain but will quickly turn to heavy snow as temperatures fall in the wake of a strong cold front. The snow will taper off from west to east Monday night through Tuesday morning. In addition to the snow, strong northwesterly winds gusting up to 60 km/h will also develop Monday night. Reduced visibility in blowing snow can be expected at times, particularly over exposed areas.

Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly.
