Duplicate bridge results and tip: A new product for reducing stress

By Val Rhead

On previous occasions, I have remarked that a person who plays both golf and bridge is a masochist. Bridge is a partnership game and sometimes there can be a level of stress. Well, the pharmaceutical industry is always looking for new products and it has come up with a bottle of over-the-counter pills that reduces your stress at the bridge table. The bottle contains assorted red, white and blue pills. The directions read as follows:

When partner, holding three card support and six points, fails to support your opening “One Heart” bid and you miss game, take one red pill.

When partner, holding six Spades and zero points, fails to get you to a Spade contract after your One No Trump opening and you go down a bundle, take one white pill.

When partner forgets to complete your “Transfer” bid and leaves you to play Two Hearts with a four card Heart fit, take one blue pill.

When partner bids “PASS” after your “take out double” and the opponents make a huge score, take one pill of each colour.

When partner bids “PASS” after your strong “Two Club” opening, swallow the entire bottle – you need major refurbishment.

For availability and the list of side effects, ask your pharmacist about the new red, white and blue bottle of “Game Stress Pills” on April 1st.

If you wish to promote an activity in your bridge group or ask a bridge question, send the information to [email protected] and I will include it in this column.
