Now is the time to get your partner booked for THE LONGEST DAY Bridge Event in Orillia on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, supporting the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
Guardian Angels Church 1 p.m.
115 West Street North, Orillia
At the time of preparing this column (May 17, 2017) the Orillia team has plans to hold two short games (12-16 hands each) beginning at 1 p.m. If they are able to use the Church Hall into the evening then they may add a couple more short games. Cost will be $5 per game plus donation if you wish. There will be an open section and a 299er section. Net proceeds will go to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
The American Contract Bridge League (ACBL.org) is the parent body of Bridge. Following is information about THE LONGEST DAY collected from their website.
Held annually on the summer solstice, the event symbolizes the challenging journey of those with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers. This is the fifth year of ACBL’s partnership with THE LONGEST DAY, and so far bridge players have given more than $2 million to this worthy cause.
There is a surge in new memberships each June around The Longest Day. Clubs across North America are hosting events on this day for regular players and newcomer social players who will find it a very friendly opportunity to get introduced to the duplicate game. ACBL loves spreading the word about Bridge.
In some clubs, The Longest Day has become the Bridge social event of the year. One large American club boasted, “At the last event we had about 90 people and raised $6500 for Alzheimer’s.”
More information will follow here and on Orillia’s website www.orilliabridge.com.
