Mother’s Day is coming up. What are you going to do about it? A great gift for a Mum who is a Bridge player is a book about the game. No Bridge player ever stops learning! There are many available books on Bridge that will help your Mum improve her game. The catch is that they are not often found in conventional book stores. Oh, occasionally I’ve found a copy of “Bridge for Dummies” by Eddie Kantar on the shelves. This is a good introduction to Bridge, and Eddie Kantar is a knowledgeable writer. Hardly ever, though, have the book stores stocked the plethora of books on Bridge that deal with the many nuances of this challenging game.
Our mail order Canadian source for Bridge books is: Vince Oddy, (Bridge Books, Games and Supplies) 1 800 463 9815 or 905 727 2300, [email protected], www.vinceoddy.com.
A prime American source is Baron Barclay Bridge Supply: www.baronbarclay.com.
Titles I would recommend include:
- Points Schmoints and More Points Schmoints by Marty Bergen
- Any book co-authored by Canadian International Bridge icon, Barbara Seagram
- Modern Bridge Defense by Eddie Kantar
- Any book by Canadian International teacher, Audrey Grant
- Larry Teaches Defense by Larry Cohen
- How the Experts Win at Bridge by Burt Hall and Lynn Rose-Hall
- Opening Leads by Mike Lawrence
The list is endless. These are just a smattering of the titles available that I happen to have on the shelves of my Bridge library.
Bridge is a world-wide game, but it can be played slightly differently in various countries. For this reason, it is best to stick with Canadian and American authors to avoid the confusion of dealing with such differences as the four-card major suit systems of Britain, Australia and New Zealand.
And by the way, Dad would enjoy these books also.
