Driver convicted of impaired after getting stuck in snowbank

A Peterborough man found himself in court after getting his car stuck in a snowbank in Huntsville.

Appearing In Bracebridge court, Allan Wellman, 33,  of Peterborough, pled guilty to driving with over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

Court heard that on Feb. 11, 2024, at roughly 1 a.m., Huntsville OPP received a call from a homeover on Old Novar Road. The caller reported a man had come to his door requesting help to get his vehicle unstuck from a snowbank. 

When the OPP arrived, the car was still stuck in the snowbank, and police suspected the driver, Wellman, had been drinking. He admitted that he had been drinking, and a breathalyzer sample resulted in readings of 140 mg of alcohol. 

Wellman was sentenced to a $2,000 fine and a 12-month driving ban.
