Doppler readers love Christmas ~ our top entertainment stories for 2018

If our readership stats prove anything, it’s that Doppler readers really like Christmas. This year’s top entertainment stories were all about Christmas, including a movie about Christmas.

A Veteran’s Christmas

It was beginning to look a lot like Christmas for a few days in late September, when a Hallmark-affiliated film crew transformed part of Huntsville’s Main Street into a U.S. town for the filming of A Veteran’s Christmas. The movie premiered on November 11 on the Hallmark channel and the W Network.

Miniature Christmas Village

Who knew the biggest miniature Christmas village in Muskoka was on display at Hope’s Foodland? Doppler readers loved our story about Phil Hope, owner of Hope’s Foodland in Novar, and his incredible Christmas village. From a skating rink to trains and a helicopter, the size and detail of the miniature village on display at the grocery store is truly awe inspiring. The miniature village measures roughly 26 by 26 feet and contains about 300 pieces.

Christmas light show

Speaking of Christmas spirit in the Village of Novar, the Smith family takes it to a cosmic level. When Doppler readers told us that a house just over the railway tracks in Novar was a must-see for the holidays, we had to take a look. We weren’t the only ones. When we arrived, several cars were already stopped along the side of the road to watch the show of lights—46,000 of them—which is timed to a variety of Christmas tunes. Here’s a little peak at what you can expect:

2018 Santa Claus Parade

As always, Huntsville’s Santa Claus parade was the perfect start to the Christmas season. Sometimes when covering an event it’s best to put down the pen and pick up the camera. Our pictorial coverage of the parade was one of our top read entertainment stories in 2018.
