OUT TO DRY will showcase JF Kuehnen’s raw and powerful unstretched pieces in an outdoor gallery setting at his home located in downtown Huntsville.

Abstract artist. Stone mason. Retired poet. Kuehnen, one guided by a feeling, an incident, a thought, a sensation. Through a palette that makes its own decisions as to which colours will be used and mixed, he pours energy and texture into his canvasses, letting the evolution of the painting determine his movements.

Influenced not only by his surroundings but by the landscape within, Kuehnen experiments with various techniques and methods in order to convey the depth of vision and feeling of his experiences. Whether it be the isolation of the woods that line the Big East River, the distant horizon reflected on the sea in Stoupa, the crowded, claustrophobic sidewalk of early afternoon on Yonge Street, or the dreams that come with awareness, he takes these moments and reinterprets them, revealing them not as what they were but what they are.

The latest works of Kuehnen featured at OUT TO DRY will be available for sale unstretched or he can stretch and frame the painting of your choosing at an additional cost.

This show will also follow the same style of his previous 2016 YART SALE, where the paintings had no set price and interested buyers made an offer for the pieces they desired.

“The YART SALE was a huge success,” said Kuehnen “and I wanted to keep that conversation open: a reaction or emotion each piece provokes for the individual and why. Art is so personal and I want people to access it in a casual setting.”

OUT TO DRY will take place on Saturday, June 2, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 65 West St S., Huntsville. In the event of rain, the show will be on Sunday, June 3, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
