Don’t get scammed by false fundraiser, warns fire department

The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department is warning the public of a fundraising scam currently being conducted over the phone. Local residents have contacted the Town of Huntsville saying they have received phone calls from individuals claiming to be calling on behalf of the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department carrying out a fundraising campaign for the “52nd annual Teddybear Fundraiser.”

The fire department is warning residents that it is in no way affiliated with these individuals and there is no such campaign. If you have been a victim of this fraudulent telephone campaign, the fire department is recommending that you contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or access their website here.
