Algonquin Café & Deli is hosting its seventh annual Christmas meal at the Parish Hall in Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntsville.
There will be a traditional oven-roasted turkey dinner with all the trimmings. The dinner is by donation only and it’s a great way to bring community members together at Christmas, explained Algonquin Café General Manager Bill Martin.
Seating is limited so those planning to attend are asked to call ahead so organizers know if a second seating is required. Please call 705-784-9700.
Last year, despite the snowstorm, the Café served about 80 people and managed to raise almost $25,000 for community members in need through the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. Martin explained that the charity is run concurrently with the Catholic Church and helps anywhere from 40 to 60 local families per month with things like food, clothing, homeware, rent, etc.
“Anyone who is alone for Christmas shouldn’t be alone, they should be with us,” said Martin who will be cooking in the kitchen.
Serving begins at 1 p.m. on Christmas Day.
Martin said donations are down everywhere this year and people are in need. He asked community members to dig deep and make a donation if possible at the venue or at Algonquin Café to help support those in need in the community. He also wished everyone a Happy Holiday and a prosperous New Year.
