District reduces hauled sewage rates to encourage proactive maintenance of residential systems

District Council voted at its September 18, 2017 meeting to amend the 2017 hauled sewage rate from $213 to $140 per 4.55 m³ effective immediately, and also proposed that the rate remain $140 per 4.55 m³ for 2018. The new rate is aligned with comparable rates in neighboring municipalities.

“The District is committed to doing everything possible to protect Muskoka’s natural environment,” explains John Klinck, District Chair. “We hope the new lower rate will encourage residents to regularly, proactively maintain their septic systems and reduce the risk of contamination from untreated waste that is released into the environment when a septic system fails.”

One of Council’s Strategic Priorities is the protecting Muskoka’s natural environment by leading in the creation and implementation of innovative environmental protection policies, programs, partnerships and practices. In addition to this rate reduction, the District is scheduled to complete a Biosolids/Lagoon Feasibility Study by the end 2017.
