This is not just another plan to plan. Appointed by the North Simcoe Muskoka Local Health Integration Network (NSM LHIN), the Muskoka and Area Health Transformation (MAHST) Council will oversee a grassroots design process that engages health, social services and community stakeholders across the continuum of care. This is a unique opportunity to generate a person-centred model for local health care and a plan to implement those changes – designed by people who live in Muskoka, experience the current system and best understand local needs.
Appointment of MAHST General Council Members
Following an extensive application process, the following applicants have been selected to sit as members of the MAHST General Council:
- Rob Alexander: Municipal – North Area
- Natalie Bubela: Acute Care
- Dr. Keith Cross: Physician
- Valerie Johnston: Mental Health and Addiction
- Sue Kelly: Community and Home Care
- John Klinck: Municipal – District
- Colleen Nesbit: Public Health
- Lynn Sharer/Shelly van den Heuvel (shared appointment): Primary Care Teams
- Graydon Smith: Municipal – South Area
- Rick Williams: Long Term Care and Social Services
These members will join previously appointed Executive Committee members Don Mitchell (Chair), Dr. Adalsteinn Brown (Special Advisor and Co-Chair), Charlane Cluett, Gary Froude, Dr. David Mathies, Philip Matthews, Sven Miglin, Larry Saunders and John Sisson. Additional appointments to the Council of Nurse Practitioner and First Nation Community members will follow shortly to complete the Council’s formation. The MAHST Council will hold its inaugural meeting this week and will participate in a full-day scoping session on December 1, 2016 to define the project deliverables, work streams and timeframes. Based on the project work streams identified in those initial meetings, the MAHST Council will name Working Group Chairs and Members who will be engaged to carry out the project work over the coming months.
The primary goal of MAHST is to better integrate services and agencies across the continuum of care – from wellness and prevention to home care and community services through to the delivery of primary care, acute care and end-of-life care. To create a system where all partners work more closely together to ensure the best, most sustainable health care services are available to everyone who lives, plays or visits in Muskoka and Area.
Status of Project Activities:
- Orientation of the full Council and executive committee members will take place tomorrow, November 24, 2016.
- A full day project scoping session will take place on December 1, 2016 and include members of the Council and invited guests to define the project deliverables, work streams and timeframes.
- Data and resources to support the work of the Council and working groups are being assembled.
- Working Groups will be oriented and working at full capacity in early January 2017.
Project Management Resources
The MAHST executive committee and Council reports directly to the NSM LHIN Board. However, The District Municipality of Muskoka (District) is serving as the lead agency in facilitating project operations, including funding, accountability, reporting, approvals, etc.
