The McDonald’s Tobacco British Consols Tankard determined Ontario’s representative at the Canadian National Men’s Curling Championships, the Brier.
The Tankard is the Ontario Men’s Curling Provincial Championships. In 1962, the Evan Jenkins team won all preliminary contests to qualify to compete.
According to Huntsville Author David Johns, “Evan Jenkins was one of the best curlers in the 1950s and 1960s. Evan had one leg shorter than the other, but it didn’t stop this great person and athlete from mastering all sports. Not only was he a wonderful curler, he played softball, golfed, water skied, and many other sports. And then there was his dancing ability!”
In the end, the Bayne Secord team from Agincourt, the Tam-Heather team, defeated Huntsville and went on to the Brier.
Submitted by Dennis Rolland on behalf of the Huntsville Curling Club in anticipation of Curling Day in Canada on January 31, 2026, and the Huntsville Curling Club’s celebration of its 125th Anniversary.
