Things seemed to become a little muddled as to whether a new logo presented to council in July would be accepted by Huntsville council as the new community brand.
A resolution that would have instructed municipal staff to continue working with the company that designed the logo on its rollout was postponed until council’s November 7 meeting.
Councillor Tim Withey wanted to know whether that meant that the new logo was being approved by council. “I didn’t think that we were giving the thumbs up to what they presented,” he said.
Huntsville Mayor Karin Terziano clarified that the postponement would give council an opportunity the get clarification about the logo and its future use. “We want staff to bring back a more fulsome report,” she added.
Councillor Dione Schumacher said there was some confusion as to whether the logo was meant to serve as a municipal or community brand “and what the difference kind of is because I think that a lot of people were confused,” she said. Terziano concurred. She said the idea is to ask staff to return with more context about its use.

Most of the above comments seem to have nailed this accurately.
I support John Finley’s comments with the thought that if it has worked for years, is not broken, why are we spending money with strangers to the area to try to create something new.
It is simply not necessary.
As Coke or Pepsi will tell you one of the main strengths of a logo is that it remains unchanged essentially for a long long time. This allows a greater number of people to be familiar with it. Granted Huntsville is not Coke or Pepsi but what was wrong with the old logo?
John Finley: Well said. There are ‘brands’ that are unchanged after centuries, so is it really necessary to change ours? Or was it just for something to do?
And if it is decided that it should be changed, as others have mentioned, we have enough artistic talent in the town to get the job done. Maybe even a competition and the populace to vote. Possibly save twenty grand!
Might have to kiss a lot of toads, but in there somewhere, there could be a princess (or prince. your choice).
How many consultants do we have to pay, and then have the council disregard the process anyway?
There are a few come to mind.
The proposed logo is colourful and pretty – for a quilt!
Ya’ … I don’t think it does anything for the branding of the community. Just doesn’t jump out at me.
It seems very plain, or vanilla as some might say or as above, candy floss.
Maybe as suggested, run a contest, promote it to the High School. … It’d be a lot cheaper.
The spending of our Tax Dollars on consultants for outside “expertise” is very frustrating as they are often expensive, and many times Councils and various levels of government ignore the results anyway.
It seems like a way to delay or deflect responsibility or simply ‘do nothing’.
Why not turn to the community and ask them for input via dialog or contests or …? Be creative.
Bland, hard to read, zero differentiation
Please do not approve this. It does not represent the Town of Huntsville that l know and love. The present logo represents the rocks trees and water that is Huntsville. Don’t let a consultant tell you what you should think. Tell the consultants what you think.
Embarrassing to even show it, not worth consideration. Is someone related to the people who created this?
Ugliest branding for a municipality I have ever seen. Council and staff should want to attract people and business, not turn them all away. S6tay the way we are. Woof.
As former vice-president of Muskoka Tourism, with decades of marketing experience I can honestly say that this treatment (it’s not a logo) is ridiculous. Stop wasting our time and money on a search for an inlusive fix to a problem that doesn’t exist.
Looks quite simple. How is it relatable to anything this town has to offer.
It’s sterile and visually does not highlight the beauty of Huntsville. Imagery and symbolism needed.
Get serious is right. My earlier comment was a candy floss sign is not representative of Huntsville. We will have to live with whatever is chosen for a long time. So take your time council to seriously consider your vote.

Why would we want to look like several other cities & towns. Hope we didn’t pay for this generic rendering. With all the artists and talent in this community. Have a contest. Bet the high school folks can do better
Are you serious?
