Another beauty from Muskoka Digital Archives. This photo is of 27 Minerva Street, Huntsville, Ontario —home of Hugh and Amanda Cooper, 1929.

This house at 27 Minerva Street (old numbering system) was located where the Huntsville Public Library is today at 7 Minerva Street East.

Amanda Leflar (1887-1932) and Hugh Cooper (1883-1948) were married in Burk’s Falls on April 25, 1906. They lived in this house between 1923 and 1932.

They came to Huntsville from Kearney, where three of their 13 children had died at birth. Hugh Cooper, sitting on the step, worked for Muskoka Wood, a hardwood sawmill and hardwood flooring plant based in Huntsville, Ontario. It was founded in 1901 by the Hutcheson family (including R. J. Hutcheson and W. E. Hutcheson.

Hugh Cooper’s mother, Frances Jane Connor Cooper, is seated behind him. Note the “Boarding House” sign to the right of the doorway. The vehicle on the left is a Model T Ford.
