A public meeting will be held to gather input regarding two water access locations owned by the municipality of Huntsville—one is a road allowance that leads to Fairy Lake at the end of South Fairy Lake Rd and the other is a water access property at Tyland Park (255 Echo Bay Road).
According to a report provided to Huntsville Council at its March 27 meeting by Colleen MacDonald, Manager of Parks and Cemeteries for the Town, staff will be seeking answers to the following questions via the public meeting planned for Wednesday, April 12 at 6 pm in the Active Living Centre. (There will also be an online survey at myhuntsville.ca):
- Would you like to see improvements made to one or both of the municipal properties in this immediate area?
- If amenities were added to either property to enhance water access, what amenities should be included?
- Should amenities added to the waterfront be accessible to all?
- Would you like to see off street parking added for users of the water access and park area?
- If improvements and added amenities were proposed for only one site, instead of both, which is the more suitable site for increased foot traffic, public use and vehicular traffic?
- Is there anything else you would like to comment on at this time related to the water access and any proposed future plans for these properties?
- Are there any specific groups or individuals who we should be seeking input from? If yes, please provide contact information if known.
Councillor Scott Morrison said he’d fully support a dock in the Echo Bay/Fairy Lake area. “Having access to water I think is key, specially for those that can’t afford to live on the water. It checks all the boxes for our community wellness thoughts. The fact that kids can get off their Ipad and hop into a canoe and go for a swim, I think it’s amazing, I’d fully support it,” said Morrison who thanked staff for bringing it forward.

My question was connected to what Edward mentioned…
Are these locations suitable for a boat launch and associated parking with a trailer?
Would same parked vehicle and trailer block other users.?
To my knowledge, that’s a pretty steep bank.
We’ve need of a ramp or stairs for safe access. We don’t need parking spots or other amenities. Users of these small accesses will be residents of South Fairy Lake Rd., Riverside Dr., and Echo Bay Rd. For many years there was access from Tyland Park down to the water but that was taken away when roadwork was done. For many years a few families from S. Fairy Lake Rd. & Riverside Dr. maintained rough stairs & a dock @ the road allowance but that was taken from them due to Town insurance. The Town was approached to consider these users sign insurance waivers as well as other options with no consideration given. Refer to letters dated June 2021. These 2 access points are steep and treed with no beach or open area. They are suitable for swim, canoe & kayak launch use only.
