Community Living Huntsville’s (CLH) Celebrating Inclusion Tours have introduced many people to the organization and through community networking 133 people joined its third fundraising event Building Inclusion.
Going into the morning of the fundraiser on June 13, $61,120 had been raised through the CLH Leadership Challenge—$29,820 received in cash, and $31,300 in pledges. This is the largest amount they have raised to date through the Leadership Challenge.
“We are thankful to each and every one who contributed and participated in the challenge,” said Andrea Johnston, Community Living Huntsville’s Manager: Quality and Community Development. “On June 13, we shared a wonderful hour together of stories, songs, and testimonials from those whose lives have been impacted one way or another by Community Living Huntsville. We also heard from two moms about the unmet need in our community.”
In just one hour, CLH received $9383.50 in cash and $22,720.00 in pledges for a grand total of $ 32,103.50 that morning, and an overall Building Inclusion fundraising total of $93,223.50!
“We were overwhelmed by the generosity and support that our community members showed us that morning,” said Johnston. “The results from our Building Inclusion event, and the impact of Celebrating Inclusion tours can be seen just by looking at what our community has done to support Community Living Huntsville. People made the choice to do something and get involved. The Investment in Inclusion goes far beyond funds raised and directly impacts the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities. It is amazing what can be done when we all partner together.”
Three years ago, Community Living Huntsville embarked on a fundraising journey that would bring this organization back to its grassroots which began more than 55 years ago: filling a gap in our community.
There are people in our community seeking services who are not meeting Developmental Services Ontario eligibility criteria to access CLH’s government-funded services. At a time when their disability has left them particularly vulnerable, they are not able to access support necessary to thrive in their own community.
Community Living Huntsville’s goal is to launch a program this fall to address this gap and they will continue working hard toward their goals with the belief that Inclusion is an investment worth pursuing.
