Community harmony singing series led by award-winning folk musician begins February 23

At a time when many people are feeling the pull to gather, connect, and raise their voices together, a new six-week community singing series at the Muskoka Music Centre offers a welcoming space to do just that.

Beginning Monday, February 23, this weekly class meets Mondays from 5:00–6:30 PM and is open to singers of all experience levels — from those who have never sung before to seasoned vocalists. The series is led by Hannah Shira Naiman, a local Canadian Folk Music Award–winning musician known for her warm, inclusive approach to music-making and community singing.

Participants will learn to sing by ear, developing confidence and ease while discovering the joy of harmony singing. Each week gently “decodes” the mystery of harmony singing through simple, accessible techniques, allowing the group to end every session singing together with clarity and confidence.

Songs are drawn from a wide range of traditions that have long brought people together in times of change, including Shape Note music, Appalachian folk songs, African American gospel, and protest songs. The course offers singing as a grounding, connective practice — a way to process, express, and build community through shared sound.
