Chrysalis receives $4,000 cheque from Muskoka 2/4 Craft Beer Festival

Today, the Downtown Huntsville BIA and the Muskoka 2/4 Craft Beer Festival Committee presented a cheque for $4,000 to Ruth Holloway, Program Manager of the Muskoka Women’s Advocacy Group which runs Muskoka’s two shelters, Chrysalis in Huntsville and Interval House in Bracebridge, in addition to providing other services and supports for women. Proceeds from last year’s ticket sales were earmarked as a donation to Chrysalis, Huntsville’s women’s shelter.

“It’s very generous. The shelters really rely on the community’s support for supplies for our children’s program and our outreach program for the women,” said Holloway, adding that monetary donations are helpful any time of year. The shelter also accepts gently used clothing, toys, bedding, and kitchen supplies. “Women go from the shelter to starting up and those kinds of things are helpful. And we count on volunteers for grocery shopping, for childcare, for driving women and children to appointments.” Anyone interested in volunteering can complete the application form at mwag.ca.

The 2017 Muskoka Craft 2/4 Craft Beer Festival is scheduled for Saturday, May 20. (See more photos and details from last year’s event here.) The committee has upped the ante for its second year with 15 craft beer and cider vendors instead of 10, and has doubled the number of food vendors from five to 10. To accommodate all of the vendors and the expected crowds, this year’s event will span both River Mill Park and its parking lot.

The 2017 Muskoka 2/4 Craft Beer Festival was a resounding success

Admission will once again be $20 which includes a commemorative five-ounce mug and, new this year, a few beer sampling tickets to get revellers started. Watch for tickets online or at Treasures and Trophies coming soon.

The bands for the 2017 festival haven’t been chosen yet, but the committee intends to stay local. “We know how great they are, and we had a lot of people coming up from Toronto who said how good they are, too,” said Helena Renwick, the BIA’s Executive Director.

The committee has applied for a Celebrate Ontario grant, which it won’t receive word about until March, but Renwick says they are in a good financial position and will forge ahead regardless. They’ll announce the beneficiary of funds raised this year at a later date.
