Christmas is fun for everyone at Huntsville Public Library

This holiday season, Huntsville Public Library (HPL) wants you to have fun and a variety of family-friendly activities happening over the next few weeks will help you get in the spirit.

On November 24 from 10:00 a.m. to noon, babies, toddlers and preschoolers – and their parents or caregivers, too! – are invited to visit the library for books and songs, and to draw a letter to Santa. Families can also have some green screen fun and take a festive photo. “You can pose with different holiday and winter backgrounds and use it for Christmas cards or email newsletters or just come in and have a load of fun to celebrate the holidays,” says HPL’s CEO and Chief Librarian, Deborah Duce.

If you miss it, bring the family for more green screen fun for all ages on Thursday, December 1 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Christmas wouldn’t be complete without some crafting. The Teen Advisory Group (TAG) will show older kids – aged 5-12 – how to create some fun decorations like candy cane sleds and origami reindeer. Hang them on the library tree or take them home to hang on your own. It’s a free event on December 6 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. but please call the library in advance to register.

If a new tablet or other device is on your wishlist, stop by the library to talk to the teen techs or e-librarians for their advice and to try out the library’s Samsung tablets and iPads to see which one works best for you. “If you get one for Christmas, charge it up, create an account and bring it in – we can help you set it up,” says Duce. “It’s a popular service, and we see lots of people coming in to get help with their FitBits too.”

All of these activites are our gift to all of our users to say thanks for your support, and enjoy the holidays.

If you want to give a Christmas gift to the library in return, they gratefully accept donations in any amount. “Community donations all go into an account that the library board uses specifically for what you want us to spend the money on – we have a big, long list,” says Duce. “That’s how we purchased The Annex – with 100 per cent community donations. It really makes a big difference.” As thanks, and depending on the donation received, they’ll be printing a limited number of 3D library-themed Christmas ornaments that you can use to trim your tree.
