Ches Fulton

Ches Fulton is telling hospital staff how to run the place more efficiently: he’s going home today

One-week post surgery and Ches Fulton is heading home.

Ches’ wife Betty shared this good news, saying Ches has been at the Toronto General Hospital since last Thursday but is expected to make a break from there today.

Back in March, the Huntsville community waved goodbye to Ches and Betty Fulton as they made the move closer to their family in St. Catharines in preparation for Ches’ surgery.

The outpouring of gratitude and well wishes from people in the community following the story was astounding. So we are pleased to provide this update that following the surgery Ches is well and on his way home.

Ches and Betty Fulton might be all smiles in the photo, but they are leaving with heavy hearts.

The photograph accompanying this story was taken by Ches’ son Clyde and sent in an email to immediate family with the subject: Situation Normal.

Here he is reading the paper and doing the Sudoku puzzle this morning. He is fully engaged, clear headed and interested in everything going on. He has already had his morning stroll and has no interest in getting back into bed. He is now offering hospital staff suggestions on how to improve the efficiency of their operations. They may want to get rid of him even earlier than planned. 🙂 Email to family from Ches and Betty’s son Clyde Fulton

That sounds about right.

Since leaving Huntsville, Betty says they have settled nicely into their new home. “We are extremely happy with our new living quarters; much as we hated leaving Huntsville, this is working out very well, and it is nice having family close at hand.”

That’s not to say Betty and Ches have left Huntsville behind. Betty makes daily phone calls to friends to check in and checks Doppler ‘to see what is new in Huntsville,’ and we are thrilled to hear that!

Please see the original story – A sad farewell: the Fultons love Huntsville, and the feeling is mutual.

So happy to hear Ches is doing so well and you’ve both adapted to your new surroundings. There’s nothing as good as being close to family
You’re badly missed up here, especially at St. Johns but we’re kept updated and are glad to be getting good news.
Love to you both. Linda Brodie.

That does indeed sound like Ches; a very bright man, but not a patch on Betty at the bridge table. I met them at Club 55 bridge on Thursday evenings, and never met a happier or more genteel couple in my life. I am thrilled to hear about the success of Ches’s surgery; as well as their smooth transition to life in St. Catharines.

You are truly missed in Huntsville.
