The Huntsville Festival of the Arts and the Rotary Clubs of Bracebridge and Huntsville are pleased to announce that they have joined together as “Muskoka On Stage” to continue in collaboration the wonderful tradition of presenting annual spring musicals on the stages of Muskoka.
Muskoka On Stage’s first venture will be co-producing the Muskoka premiere of Mamma Mia! next spring. This joint effort will bring together the theatre community in Muskoka through three organizations with decades of experience producing top-notch Broadway shows for local stages.
The Rotary Club of Bracebridge has put on “The Rotary Show” every spring for over forty years. The Huntsville Festival of the Arts has successfully mounted big musical productions on the Algonquin Theatre stage for more than a decade. Those shows followed a tradition of participation by a wide range of community volunteers that was begun by the Rotary Club of Huntsville when it started the “spring musical” tradition in Muskoka over 50 years ago.

The opportunity for community theatre companies to present Mamma Mia! only recently became available through the licensing agency. After initial discussions it became apparent that, due to the anticipated popularity of the musical, it offered a perfect opportunity to attempt a Muskoka-wide production.
The production will involve cast, crew and orchestra from throughout Muskoka. Mamma Mia! will commence a two-weekend run at the Rene M. Caisse Memorial Theatre in Bracebridge the last week of February. After a short hiatus, it will then move to Huntsville’s Algonquin Theatre for seven more performances starting March 23. Auditions will be held in October and rehearsals will begin in mid-November.
The first step in this exciting process is the selection of a director to bring Mamma Mia! to life. The Muskoka On Stage team, which includes members from both Huntsville and Bracebridge, will select a director based on his or her enthusiasm, vision for the show, experience, commitment and willingness to work with a team from throughout the Muskoka theatre community. With the expertise evident in past productions in both communities, it is anticipated that the director will have the support of a skilled production team, as well as a talented pool of actors to work with. As with past productions of both organizations, this is a volunteer position.
