Caleb Creasor, former Huntsville Hawks lacrosse champion, has been chosen as an alternative goalie on the Team Canada final roster for the 2023 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship. Team Canada opens the action against the United States on June 21 in San Diego California.
Trials for the 2023 Seniors Men’s Team for Team Canada were held in Oshawa on Oct. 14 – 16, 2022. Open to all ages, Creasor had to prove his skills in a highly competitive selection process. Creasor is a senior goalie, in his final year, for the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, with a .538 record. With close to 50 candidates, comprised of Canada’s most talented lacrosse players, Team Canada picked 26 of the strongest to bring to the World Championship.
Dan Carey, General Manager, has stated that the final player roster will be narrowed down to 23 for gameplay. Creasor recently told Doppler, that he does not expect to see an on-field position during the playoffs, but he will be there as a third goalie in reserve for the team.
Team Canada earned a silver medal in 2018, in Israel. The 2023 final roster, includes many veterans from 2018: Wes Berg, Josh Byrne, Zach Currier, Curtis Dickson, Latrell Harris, Graeme Hossack, Brodie Merrill, Ryland Rees, Jeff Teat, Dillon Ward, and Jake Withers. Canada will compete against powerful teams from the United States, Haudenosaunee, Australia, and England.
Thirty international teams are in the Championships, divided into six pools. Highest-ranking teams from each pool, through round-robin play, move on through a combination of team wins, goals, and points to the finals. Games will be broadcast on ESPN and TSN.
Creasor expects that the games will be very exciting with Team Canada anticipated to be on the hunt for a gold medal. Caleb says it is a great honour to be picked in his first Senior Men’s Championship, an ambition he has worked hard to achieve.
Creasor has completed the final year of pre-med studies at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, and is considering his sports options for the future while pursuing higher education in medicine.
