Budget request applications for the Town of Huntsville now open until March 16

The application period for the Town of Huntsville’s Community and User Group Budget Request process is now open, offering the community the opportunity to submit requests for amenities, programs, or services to be considered for the 2027 Mayor’s Budget.

The application is available on huntsville.ca and complete applications must be submitted by March 16, 2026.

The request must be for a Town-owned service or asset and is intended to support initiatives that are accessible to the whole community. Community and user group budget requests can include one-time expenses, such as purchasing equipment, as well as ongoing expenses, such as offering a new recurring program. This process is designed to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective collaboration among the public, staff, and Council throughout the application and review stages. It also establishes a consistent approach for proposing and implementing changes to existing levels of service that may impact the Town’s budget and staff’s workplans.

“The Community and User Group Budget Request process is another way we’re listening to the community to help ensure our budget and services reflect what our community wants,” shares Julia McKenzie, Director of Financial Services. “By starting these conversations early, we will have a very clear understanding of budget implications, to help support responsible decision making through a transparent and inclusive process.”

New Process for Requests

The application outlines the initial information required, and staff will meet with applicants on April 8, 2026, to ask clarifying questions, where necessary. This change to the process will allow staff adequate time to carefully consider the implications of the request and prepare additional documentation.

Next Steps

Applicants who wish to continue with the request process will be required to present a deputation at April’s General Committee. In June, staff will provide additional information on the requests, including any ongoing budget implications, for Committee’s consideration. By the end of the process, a project may be approved for consideration in the budget, approved for consideration in the budget with changes, or denied.
