Bob Macaulay

After dealing with stage four cancer for a year, Bob passed away quietly on January 22, 2025, at the age of 73.

Predeceased by his parents Hugh and Dorothy Macaulay, he leaves behind his beloved wife and soulmate of 50 years, Carol (nee Adams), his sister Barbara (Fred) Hacker of Midland, his brother Andy of Waterloo, his brother-in-law Doug Adams of Temagami, and his brother-in-law Bruce (Mary Lou) Adams of Kingsville. He also is survived by his Midland nieces Kim Hacker (Jarrod Cameron), Kristen (Markus) Baumann, and Kate (Peter) Hunter, his nephew Garrett Macaulay of Toronto, and his Kingsville nieces Stacey Adams and Karrie (John) Noble; as well as four grand-nieces and two grand-nephews.

Bob graduated in 1974 from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Environmental Studies (Urban and Regional Planning). He was a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and a Registered Professional Planner. He co-founded a firm with Ron Shiomi and Elizabeth Howson which continues today as Macaulay Shiomi Howson Ltd. Bob was involved in a wide range of planning projects throughout his 35-year professional career. He had a reputation as a consummate and capable professional.

Following retirement, Bob and Carol moved north from Toronto to their newly built waterfront home in Huntsville. Ten years later, they moved south to the shores of Lake Simcoe on the edge of Orillia.

Bob’s outside interests over the years, have included cottaging, boating, snowmobiling, ATVing, canoeing, windsurfing, photography, travelling, and sports cars. He spent 10 years as the Activities Coordinator of the local sports car club “Miatas of Muskoka.”

Bob will be forever remembered for his sometimes irreverent sense of humour, and his kind and gentle spirit. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West Street North, Orillia, on Saturday, February 1 from 12:00pm until 2:00pm. A time for sharing memories will begin at 1:00pm. A private interment will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto.
