Huntsville’s Got Talent is back on Saturday, February 2, 2019 for its third year to showcase talent from the local community and beyond!
The idea for Huntsville’s Got Talent (HGT) originated with Dr. Drew Markham and came from both his love for television talent shows as well as his love for helping people in the Huntsville community. Drew’s father was a social worker, and heavily involved in breaking down the isolation of people in group homes and he was involved in developing policy for deinstitutionalizing. Although Drew will still be heavily involved in organizing the event, he is excited to announce that he is handing the event over to Community Living Huntsville.
Dr. Drew sold his dental practice this past summer, yet wanted to ensure HGT continued due to the incredible amount of support that the Huntsville community has demonstrated over the past two years.
Locals came together for an important cause and have raised over $17,000 for Community Living to date from this talent show. The event has sold out every year and buzz around town is that they were hoping for a third year of Huntsville’s Got Talent.
“Community Living Huntsville is so grateful to work with Dr. Drew and Janet (Markham) on this event. We have had a goal to launch and sustain a program for people with developmental disabilities who do not meet the eligibility criteria for services from Developmental Services Ontario,” said Andrea Johnston, Manager of Community Development. “We are so excited to announce that Pathways was launched on November 1, 2018 and with continued support from our community, we look forward to growing this program.”
She also mentioned that The All Abilities Dance Troupe will be making a special appearance at HGT again this year.
Auditions opened December 1 and interested performers can submit an application and audition video by visiting www.huntsvillesgottalent.ca. The deadline for entries is Friday, January 4, 2019.
