Tyler Miller may be new to the Junior C Otters—it’s the goalie’s first year with the team—but he’s certainly not new to the sport. He began playing in 2006 at the age of five.
Miller shows grace and control on the ice and has proven it by earning a spot in one of the three star players at Otters home games multiple times. “Tyler comes to work every day regardless if it’s a game or just practice. He comes with a smile and is prepared to put in the effort required to make himself and his team better,” says Coach Brent Tomlinson.
His teammates support him on and off the ice and pump him up during the game once the whistle blows. Coach Tomlinson describes Miller as extremely disciplined with his routine and work ethic. “He is a very coachable player.”
Miller feels it’s a privilege to play hockey. When he joins teams, he loves making new friends and can be seen as a role model for the younger kids that come to watch and cheer him on.
When asked what his most memorable moment in his hockey career has been so far, he replied that he has experienced many but his best moments would have been the three years in his Huntsville minor hockey days when he and his teammates earned their way into the OMHA (Ontario Minor Hockey Association) finals.
During his minor hockey journey, Miller won multiple hockey awards for being the MVP (most valuable player) but his most honoured award was goalie of the year. Moving forward, Miller does not have any specific plans or goals. He just wants to play goalie and is looking forward to achieving as much as possible. “I want to make it as far as I can in hockey,” he says.
If you haven’t seen Tyler Miller #31 play yet, watch him in action at one of the Junior C Otters home games at the Don Lough Arena. The next home game is Sunday, December 9 at 2:30pm.
