Athlete of the Week: Darian Adams

Darian Adams is a 10-year-old competitive dancer from JJ Dance Performing Arts Studio in Huntsville. She has been selected as our athlete of the week due to her successes over the past year.

Darian loves to dance because “it helps me express myself without using words,” she says. “The dance studio is like my second home to me that is filled with all of my best friends and amazing teachers who support all of us.”

Darian has been dancing for seven years—her dance career began at age three and it shows in her performances. She currently practices and competes in jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop, acro and lyrical styles of dance. Her most memorable moment so far has been when she received the Junior Dancer of the Year Title Award at the Luv to Dance competition held at Deerhurst this spring.

Darian’s talent also earned her an invitation to the Elite Dance team along with four other JJ Dance team members for the 2018 Luv 2 Dance Nationals at Blue Mountain Resort in Collingwood this July. In addition, Darian received two scholarships. The first one is a partial scholarship to the Breaking Bounds Summer Intensive in Toronto this July, where dancers focus on training, development and growth in technique. The second is a full scholarship to the Nuvo Dance Convention in December.

Last weekend, JJ Dance held their end-of-year recital and Darian was the recipient of the JJ Dance Performing Arts Jazz award.

Darian’s dance instructor and studio owner Miss Jen Johns-Main says she deserves the recognition. “Darian Adams is successful because of her hard work, takes technique training very seriously and is so dedicated to her team and the performing arts. Way to go Darian for being chosen for athlete of the week, from all your dance family at JJ Dance Performing Arts Studio. We are all so proud of you!”

When asked what her future goal is, Darian replied that she wants to be able to land her front aerial within the next year. Good luck, Darian!
