What started as a celebration of Canada 150 in 2017, then as a commemoration of Algonquin Park’s 125th anniversary in 2018, has become an annual art contest celebrating art inspired by Muskoka and Algonquin at Deerhurst Resort.
The brainchild of Karin Kriekaard of Eclipse Art Gallery, which is located at the resort, the contest invites artists to submit a series of three paintings that will vie for the honour of hanging at the Deerhurst front desk for the next 12 months, thereby becoming the first impression of our area’s naturally inspired artistic richness for thousands of guests checking in for their vacation or conference stay in Muskoka.
Many submissions are received from across Ontario.
Last year’s winner was Monica Morrill, a self-taught artist, born on Southern Vancouver Island. Her work depicts our beautiful Canadian landscape from Muskoka to the Canadian Rockies.
This year we are again inviting artists from Muskoka and beyond to submit their interpretation of Muskoka and Algonquin Park’s natural landscape.
Submission details can be found on Eclipse Art Gallery’s website.
The lucky winner will have their selected artwork prominently on display for one full year at the front lobby of Deerhurst Resort. The artwork will be available for sale during the year so the artist may need to have replacements on hand!
The wining artist will receive extensive promotion through Eclipse Art Gallery & Deerhurst Resort’s press release, websites and social media, as well as one night stay at the resort (includes accommodation and resort fee; excludes meals, drinks and incidentals).
