HAS Art Sampler offers March break fun for the big kid in you

Looking for something fun to do over March break – for you, not your kids? The Huntsville Art Society (HAS) is running its second Art Sampler following the resounding success of its inaugural offering.

During six playful days, adults and teens can get a taste of a variety of art forms – no previous art experience required. And you can experience it however you want to: dip in to just a workshop or two, immerse yourself in three days worth of fun, or indulge your inner artist for the entire six days.

In signing up, you’re also helping to promote the arts. The Art Sampler is a fundraiser for HAS and proceeds will be directed to an Artists in the Schools progam which will see local artists sharing their skills with students in Huntsville-area classrooms.

“Adults want to play, too,” says HAS co-chair Pam Carnochan. “The artists are running very play-based, experiential, non-judgemental workshops. You don’t need an ounce of understanding of the process before hand to come up with an original piece of art. It’s going to be a fun series.”

Last year’s Art Sampler was so much fun that out-of-town participants have already signed up. “Cultural tourism is alive and well,” said Carnochan.

Full day and some half-day workshops run from March 13 to 18 (see the schedule below) at the newly expanded More Than Just Art Centre of Holistic Arts (15 Manominee Street, next to Fabricland). If you have younger children (ages 6-12), check out the Artful Kids March Break Camp with Diane Finlayson in the same location – the kids camp runs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., March 13-17.
