The Huntsville Community Choir is pleased to announce that it is once again offering scholarship assistance to vocal students in the Huntsville area through its Albert E. Furtney Scholarship Program. This is a judged audition and is eligible to children between the ages of 10 and 18.
Individuals are assessed in three categories with the following prize amounts available: Youth ages 10-12 with an award of up to $300; Junior ages 13-15 with an award up to $500; and Senior ages 16-18 with an award up to $700.
Applications are available at the Huntsville Forester office for all categories and at the Huntsville High School guidance office for Junior and Senior categories only. Deadline to apply is May 27. Only 10 applications per category are available. No late applications will be accepted.
Auditions will take place on June 4 and applicants will be contacted beforehand. Good luck to all applicants.
The choir started this program more than 10 years ago in honour of Albert E. Furtney, a previous Director of the choir. Over the years the choir has awarded more than $10,000 in awards to encourage the development of vocal talent in the community. Previous winners include Amy Wallace who is pursuing a career in opera and Ryan Burda who is currently performing in stage shows in Toronto. Both have been frequent guest performers of the choir at our concerts.
