Huntsville’s Got Talent

And the Huntsville’s Got Talent 2019 finalists are…

The crowd-pleasing Huntsville’s Got Talent is back for a third year in February and the excitement is building. Today, organizers announced the eight finalists who will take to the Algonquin Theatre stage to try to wow the judges and emerge on top.

Community Living Huntsville (CLH), which is the beneficiary of the event and this year took over the task of organizing it from creator Drew Markham, hosted the announcement.

“This is the third year for Huntsville’s Got Talent and it’s been a privilege to be the recipients of the proceeds,” said Suzanne Willett, CLH manager of supports and services. “Funds raised at the event go towards our newly launched Pathways program which assists youth who are not eligible for our government-funded supports and services.”

Willett thanked everyone who auditioned—there were 18 entries this year—as well the judges and “our wonderful community for supporting this event and our quest for inclusion for everyone.”

One of the judges, Sue Kirwin-Campbell, said of the auditions, “Our job is so rewarding and so much fun to be able to watch your talent. A lot of the entries have been repetitive entries and to see the development and the growth (year over year) has been really overwhelming. It touches us so much that you enjoy what you do and that you’re passionate about your art. That you’re willing to put yourself out there to be judged is very commendable.”

She gave the hopefuls present at the announcement some insight into what the judges are looking for: performance, and the ability to draw in an audience and create a connection with them.

New for the event this year is a ‘young stars’ category, which will be a separately judged performance earlier on show day for some of the younger entries. They will each receive individual, one-on-one feedback from the judges and the winner will advance to the evening show. “We thought doing two shows, so to speak, allowed more people to get up on stage, not just the finalists,” explained organizing committee member Janet Markham.

A wildcard entry, chosen by public vote, will round out the lineup to 10 finalists. Voting for that spot will open soon on the Huntsville’s Got Talent website. Watch huntsvillesgottalent.ca for details.

In no particular order, the finalists for Huntsville’s Got Talent 2019 are (drumroll, please): Briar Summers, Holly Ballantine, The Hillbirds, Luke Asher Murphy, Jack & Josie, Jessica Ryan, Zack Fitzsimmons, and Rob Attfield.

Tickets are already on sale at the Algonquin Theatre box office or online here. The show has sold out prior to the event for the last two years. Organizers suggest purchasing your ticket early to avoid disappointment—fire regulations don’t allow for more attendees than seats available.
